ELASTIC POTENTIAL was established in Barcelona in 2014, and as of 2024 it has already has provided services for precast producers across Europe and America.
Our experience is based on 20 years of structures engineering consultancy and on teaching at top universities (Barcelona and Illinois at Urbana Champaign).
ELASTIC POTENTIAL has developed and holds several patents on optimized precast concrete structures, and permanently works in developing improvements to foster the increase of efficiency and improve the sustainability of precast concrete.

Prof. MARC SANABRA LOEWE
FOUNDER, INVENTOR AND SOUL OF THE FIRM.
Marc is PhD Architect and since 2004 he has worked as structures’ consultant for a wide range of projects.
From 2008 to 2022, he was structures’ professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, in Barcelona. In the academic year 2018-2019 he also was full-time structures’ professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
Starting in 2011, he has specialized in the optimization of precast concrete structures and has been granted several patents across 5 continents for his inventions in this field.
He leads the engineering team, and constantly works in developing new and improved solutions.

ELASTIC Inception
FOUNDATION OF ELASTIC POTENTIAL
In 2014 Prof. Marc Sanabra-Loewe was granted his PhD thesis at the UPC (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) devoted to a system he patented on precast two-way post-tensioned floors.
As the UPC was not ready to invest in the invention, ELASTIC POTENTIAL was founded in 2015 and bought the rights for the patent.
This technology was extremely efficient in terms of material consumption, able to span some 25 m (82 ft), with floors only some 40 cm (16 in) deep.
LAB TESTS
14 MONTHS OF LAB TESTS
An ambitious research program was launched at the UPV (Universidad Politecnica de Valencia) during 2016-2017 to prove the easy feasibility and structural capacity of the 2nd patent. Instead, it was found that differential shrinkage between precast concrete and concrete poured in the job was a large problem to be solved. Close to 40 specimens of several scales, geometries and concrete formulations, were tested during 14 months so study the effects of concrete aging on differential shrinkage.
1st PATENT
GROOVED HOLLOWCORE PATENT
As a result of the research program the Grooved Hollowcore technology was patented in 2018. This was finally a technology simple enough to be easily produced in series and used for actual construction.

DEPLOYMENT
In 2019 all main global machinery producers declared to be ready to manufacture machinery to produce Grooved Hollowcore.
The same year two conferences were read to describe a comprehensive method to calculate and design Grooved Hollowcore floors.
First Grooved Hollowcore industrial samples were produced in 2020, and first building was completed in 2022.

Despite being a very powerful solution on the paper, actual precasters in the US and Canada replied that it involved too many changes in production means.
This led ELASTIC POTENTIAL to pursue the development of new solutions, both structurally efficient and easy to industrialize.
